Why would anyone competent flame you? You're obviously doing it right.

To the discussion:

Warriors are awesome if you like to kill stuff, if you like to tank, Assassins in Speed Clears are going to be more rewarding (or playing a plethora of games that support the holy trinity).

@defypain scrubs: keep playing second fiddle, because until you "Warr up" and test some limits (IE: coming to the realization that many others have) you will always live inside the box (however if you can't come up with a competent argument to support your inaccurate claims, you might as well stay in the box).

tanks in GW????

sounds to me that someone played a guardian/defender in shaiya and thinks that the game mechanics here are the same

(sorry about my shaiya references lately, apparently having withdrawals )

anyway... from my experiences, a tank in GW is not needed at all

as for the OP: WE + pretty much anything, just make sure your heroes are built accordingly

and i agree with the post above, if you are able to play around a bit without taxing your midlines too much, then you are doing something right

Default Defy Pain

I use Defy Pain. I may be nub but I vanquished EotN with

Zealous axe

Defy Pain
Sprint
Flail
Asura scan
Cyclone axe
Whirland
power attack
Save yourself

with 98% time SOH boost and Splinter weapon from Hero. I have not used any Cons yet.

Currently vanquishing Prophecy with same build and so far, Ascolan area is done.
I use defy pain like 20% of the time but it is so worth it not having to get resurrected from shrine and travel all the way.

Is this the best set of skill for Warrior? Not even remotely.
Do I get job done and have fun? YES

So, Please dont be calling idiot or whatever to the people that don't use meta build or best build available.
Some of us can play without meta build and have fun.

Sure it may be fun, but you can't objectively compare the 'funness' of two builds, which is why most comparisons rely on efficiency.

On the issue of frenzy, if you can micro PS onto yourself and cover it if need be (or stance cancel with say rush) i think its the best IAS (outside of pve skills, cons, or sweets).

If you're using daggers, flurry is a decent alternative, since the base dmg is so low anyways, you don't really lose out on much damage.

If you use hammers, flail is a reasonable alternative.

It's not about meta or no meta, it's about useful vs not so useful. There are a ton of good builds out there that are not popular just waiting to be used Consider for an instant that people reading these parts of the forums are usually looking for a better understanding of the classes. Isn't it counter-intuitive to propose an inefficient build and say: "hey, screw efficiency, use this one, it's fun for me"?

And no, we who do not take Defy Pain do not end up at the res shrine as you imply.

My point is this one: if you're going to have fun, why not have fun and be the most useful at the same time? Going through content faster = able to explore more content = more fun = win.

I vanquished 2 continents using my ele. Does it make it good in Hard mode? No.

Just because it's doable doesn't mean it's optimal. It's like using fire magic (though not searing flames, so there goes most of your damage) against destroyers...

Defy Pain is extremely useful for solo farming or completing content solo. In a team, the midline and backline can do a better job, and you are free to use your elite slot to make the red dots turn gray much faster.

Devils advocate:

When you have used the meta bars for so long and completed all the content over and over and o.... you sometimes feel the desire to try new/different/odd things you know are less efficient.... but "feel" newer and fresher.... Keeps some people interested longer ^

A change is as good as a rest?

But yeah, when it comes to people asking for help and build advice ect, the general rule is to post the best information possible for people to make an informed decision their selves... that covers the meta, the best current bars, equip setups, team setups and heroes ect..

This ofc doesnt mean we cant also say, "this bar isnt the best but its a good giggle if you dont mind not rocking meta bars" and so on ^ but pushing/implying a 'fun' skill bar as been awesome or what ever when its at best, mediocre, isnt the best way to improve the community and help players learn more, especially when the person asking may not really understand the game mechanics and skill's yet and can be lead down the wrong road so to speak... its a slippery slope...

Though I can understand the logic of this, usually people are asking for what is the most efficient way of doing something.

I find W/D Endurance and 100b to both be fun and I have tried many other bars (many horrendous). If anything, the OP should state what is "best" according to meta and/or what is "fun." Of course these can both be subjective so take all this with a grain of salt.

I am also very biased against tank builds so I don't recommend them but some people enjoy being fatties.

I'm using a General 100b build to do my (HM) missions and VQ's.

For Great Justice
Hundred Blades
Flail
Whirlwind attack (Sunspear skill)
Sun and Moon slash
Sever artery
Gash
"Save Yourselves!" (Kurzick skill)

This with 3 Discord Heroes and a Zealous sword

And yeah I know, I ripped (most of ) the build off PvXwiki, but it's working great and it's fun.

Warriors are really fun to play with it, and most builds don't require much practicing in my opinion.

Apart from that, I like most of the armor for warriors, especially the females

EDIT: Might as well add the PvXlink for the build.
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Build:W/an...Blades_Warrior

As stated @ PvX, this build would work even greater in combination with a MoP Necro and/or Splinter Weapon Rit.

It's interesting coming back here once in a while to see how the PvE metagame has changed and what the build d'jour currently is, and just how far away I am from it.
I got my Legendary Vanquisher a few months ago after coming back to regular GW play after an extended break.
Sure, my H/H helped, being a spirit-way variant, but I rarely found my personal build to be a huge hindrance.
I'm kinda stubborn about using non-PvE skills, and my standard axe build got me through everything I tried.

I'd alternate between a vampiric axe, a sundering one and an elemental one, with a longbow for pulling.
My armour was/is always Sentinel's, with major axe and major strength runes.
The rest were Superior Vigour, Absorption and Vitae.

The skill-set was/is as follows:
Enraging Charge
For Great Justice!
Flail
Disrupting Chop
Eviscerate
Executioner's Strike
Agonizing Chop
Lion's Comfort

I find it's a great general purpose build, and also keeping to the idea of general purpose, I prefer axes to both swords and hammers.
They deep-wound anything, not have to rely on a pre-existing circumstance such as bleeding or knock-down.
They don't lose their effectiveness versus giant type creatures or non-bleeding creatures.
They have some nice interrupt attacks, with Disrupting Chop being one of the cheapest and most effective in the game, and a good interrupt can be one of the most useful attacks in anyone's arsenal.

I played with "Save Yourselves!" a bit, but to be honest found that the benefits were negligible, whereas the increased adrenaline gain and health from Lion's Comfort suited my style more.

i dont think theres much need for a "tank" in all but a few places, but if you can use some tanking tatics like body blocking, corner blocking, pulling etc, then you probably should

3-4 attack skills, endure pain, some party buff, a res, and a ias is a pretty good bar

There's no need for a tank but playing one (for Hero/hench) is certainly more effective than not tanking.

Check out my Wall of a text: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/p...t10434178.html - It can be done well without the use of PvE-only skills, too.

I'm not going into detail about what a lot of people have already pointed out that tanking is not as useful (especially Defy Pain).

What I do want to point out is that a lot of teams use spirits and minions, adding more bodies to the field and more damage mitigation for the team. You simply can't hold aggro once minions and spirits pop up. So your precious Defy Pain is really useful only in the beginning of the battle, then a better damage mitigation appears.

Also, I monk a lot, mostly hybrid builds, or sometimes almost all prot. I greatly appreciate a warrior that is mostly damage. I don't "waste" prots on the warrior if the rest of my team is not getting wacked. Since SY! makes the warrior more tasty, I can focus most of my energy on keeping him/her alive instead of THE REST OF THE TEAM. Prot is your friend.

For most of the game, you really only need IaU! as your only "tanking" skill.

On another note, what's with the warriors that use Endure Pain JUST AS THEY ARE RUNNING INTO battle? Isn't Endure Pain's entire point is the OH SH*T! panic button if the monks cannot catch a spike?

I beg to differ...minions tend to help you hold aggro if you draw enemies around corners. You block the inside, and minions swarm around the open side blocking anything that gets past. The low armor/hp of the minions also tend to keep the physicals from rushing past your frontline, where your minions will always be, to your squishies. Minions do nothing but help aggro control in areas where a perfectly clean cornerblock is all but impossible.

The key to warrior in pve is to rush in well ahead of your party, using your inherent armor to mitigate most of the spike damage that would decimate your backline, and wind up standing face to face with the most dangerous casters in a mob with the melee swarming around you, attacking the now-lowest HP toon in your party, with minions finishing the sandwich and holding aggro. This should result in a huge ball of red and green dots, with you surrounded by enemies...casters in front, melee to the rear, then the minions surrounding the melee as a safety net for your mid/backline.

Then you have to trust your healers to be able to keep you afloat when all that physical armor-ignoring damage comes your way. If you have a proper snare hero (zhed with deep freeze is always a good choice), you'll have zero problems holding aggro and taking the mob down quickly, even in minion-poor encounters. Only rarely should you have to flag heroes back while you gather aggro.
